Art, glass, writing and critical imagination from Venice.

Penzo+Fiore is an artistic duo working between contemporary art, Murano glass, education and cultural research.
Their practice begins with matter, places and relationships: glass, islands, workshops, communities, archives, gestures. Through artworks, texts, exhibitions and long-term projects, they explore how beauty, value and memory are produced — and how art can still become a space for responsibility, presence and transformation.

Glasstress 2026 - Berengo Studio - Murano
Curated by Adriano Berengo, Joanna De Vos and Umberto Croppi

Opera Bianca is a constellation of traditional Murano glass objects displayed within a structure inspired by a family bookcase, originally built by Andrea’s grandfather. The piece brings together familiar forms—goblets, fazzoletti, Tipetti and classical Murano vases—objects that have long inhabited domestic interiors and helped shape the collective image of “Murano glass.” Here, however, they are all white. Stripped of colour, gold and murrine, the objects appear almost like plaster casts or prototypes. This deliberate absence questions what happens when tradition is passed down, interpreted and transformed over time. The work draws on the historical misconception of the whiteness of Greek and Roman sculpture: an absence of colour became the foundation for an entire aesthetic ideal of purity and harmony. In Opera Bianca, this process is deliberately recreated. The missing colour becomes a way of looking at what remains—and of questioning how Murano glass is remembered, displayed and defined today.

IL CONTEMPORANEO IN VETRO
Berengo Studio, Murano, la Biennale di Venezia

For over thirty years, Berengo Studio has been a pioneering force in contemporary art and glass experimentation on the island of Murano.
Published by Marsilio Arte and edited by the artist duo Penzo+Fiore—Andrea Penzo and Cristina Fiore—the book traces the history of Berengo Studio and its role in bringing Murano’s glassmaking tradition into dialogue with contemporary artistic practices. From its relationship with the Venice Biennale to the creation of Glasstress in 2009, the publication explores a project that has transformed the perception and possibilities of glass as an artistic medium.
At the heart of this story is the encounter between master glassmakers and artists from different fields of contemporary research. Through collaborations with artists including Ai Weiwei, Tracey Emin and Thomas Schütte, Berengo Studio has challenged the traditional decorative identity of glass, opening it to new forms of artistic experimentation.
Through the works, artists and production processes that have shaped this history, the book reflects on glass as a material through which craftsmanship, artistic research and contemporary production meet. A rich photographic archive also reveals the processes normally hidden from view, offering a glimpse into the collaborative and material dimension behind the finished works.

OFF THE LEASH. FROM OLIVETTI TYPEWRITERS TO AI

Fourteen portable Olivetti typewriters tell a century-long story of writing: from the freedom of the Lettera 22 to the increasingly sedentary electric machines, and finally to AI. Beside the computer, the typewriter becomes a reminder: technology changes the gesture, but the responsibility to choose necessary words remains.
